A Week with Rebecca is a sci-fi short film (28 min) from 2020, directed by Marcus Shenn and co-written by him and Matthew Marder. It was produced by 91 Redrams Productions / We Make Movies. The film stars Nika Burnett as Rebecca and Phil Kruse as Ryan.
Synopsis
The story of A Week with Rebecca centres on a robotics company executive, Ryan, who is behind a project to develop android companionship. As part of the project, he ends up spending a week with the new prototype companion android, Rebecca. What begins as a clinical evaluation evolves into an unexpectedly emotional and human-like relationship between man and machine.
Through Rebecca, the film explores deeper questions about technology, companionship and humanity: what happens when artificial beings are built to fulfil emotional needs? Can someone programmed — or built — to please still evoke real human feelings and connections? And what are the implications when such relationships are threatened or short-lived?
Where to Watch – A Week with Rebecca
The film is officially available to watch for free on the DUST YouTube channel.
Many viewers praise the performances—especially Nika Burnett’s—highlighting how naturally she blends Rebecca’s subtle robotic qualities with real flashes of humanity.
At the same time, some feel the story leans a bit more into romantic drama than deeper sci-fi ethical questions, which makes the ending land in a familiar, emotionally safe place rather than pushing into something more challenging or provocative.
