British television drama series BODYGUARD is probably one of the finest political conspiracy thrillers of recent times that keeps us on the edge of our seats until the very last episode of the series. Writer Jed Mercurio’s storyline has been thoroughly engaging as we move from one to another in this six-episode series.
The TV series follows a war veteran David Budd (Richard Madden) who after helping the security officials in thwarting a terrorist attack gets the job to protect Home Secretary Julia Montague (Keeley Hawes). As he juggles between his troubled personal life and the complex routine of a fiery politician, he gets to learn too many secrets that would eventually push him into life-threatening situations.
BODYGUARD very finely introduces many characters and swiftly navigates us to many possibilities as we try to understand the real people and the motives behind the conspiracy. There is corruption at the top level, the angle of terrorism and organized crimes, a sense of sinister motives from everyone who is in power, also the lack of trust amid an atmosphere of deceit, which together makes the story thrilling and exciting.
One of the interesting aspects of the series is that the story changes its arch midway but has still been able to bring everything to the logical ending. In the final episode, although opens the door for another series, we are not too sure which way it would go. Season 1 of BODYGUARD itself has many twists and turns that for many might not work, but thanks to its stellar cast, particularly Budd, who makes this believable with an amazing performance.

Bodyguard – episode 1:
Sgt. David Budd is promoted to a protection detail for UK Home Secretary Julia Montague, but he quickly clashes with the hawkish politician.
Episode 2
After an attempted attack on the school, Budd’s kids attend, Montague worries about leaks in the department. But she may be in the line of fire herself.
Episode 3
Montague’s public standing sours further. As Budd feels mounting pressure to spy on her, investigators question his statement about the shooting.
Episode 4
In the wake of another attack, investigators grow increasingly suspicious of Budd, as his state of mind becomes increasingly frayed.
Episode 5
Budd starts putting the pieces together about who could have been behind the bombing. But those same people may be closing in on him, too.
Episode 6
When Budd’s connection to the shooter is revealed, he becomes a police target. But his reunion with Chanel creates much more serious problems.
