Patriots Day (2016) – Watch the Movie Trailer

PATRIOTS-DAY-movie-still

PATRIOTS DAY, directed by Peter Berg, is a drama based on the Boston Marathon bombing and manhunt. The film is primarily based on Casey Sherman’s and veteran Boston journalist Dave Wedge’s book “Boston Strong: A City’s Triumph Over Tragedy,” as well as some footage from the CBS television program 60 Minutes.

Given the compelling subject matter of a community’s bravery in the face of terror, the film, like the book, is expected to present some compelling facts. Interviews and behind-the-scenes looks at the investigation have already been provided by the authors. So it would be interesting to see a film adaptation of the true story. The official synopsis for the film is as follows:

In the aftermath of a horrific attack, Police Sergeant Tommy Saunders (Mark Wahlberg) teams up with brave survivors, first responders, and investigators in a race against the clock to find the bombers before they strike again. This visceral and unflinching chronicle captures the suspense of one of the most sophisticated manhunts in law enforcement history and celebrates the strength of the people of Boston by weaving together the stories of Special Agent Richard DesLauriers (Kevin Bacon), Police Commissioner Ed Davis (John Goodman), Sergeant Jeffrey Pugliese (J.K. Simmons), and nurse Carol Saunders (Michelle Monaghan).

Boston Marathon Bombing – April 15, 2013

Two pressure cooker bombs exploded during the 117th running of the Boston Marathon (April 15, 2013), one of the oldest marathon running events, killing three spectators and injuring 264 others. Three days after the incident, the FBI took over the investigation and released photographs and surveillance video of two suspects, who were later identified as Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, and his elder brother, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26. The latter was killed in a gunfight with police, while Dzhokhar was apprehended after an intense manhunt and confessed to being a radical Islamist with no ties to any terrorist organization. He was found guilty and sentenced to death by lethal injection on June 24, 2015.
