Arjun Rampal plays the real-life gangster-turned-politician Arun Gawli in the upcoming film Daddy. The trailer shows glimpses of his ruthlessness as one of India’s most-feared gangsters of 80s and 90s, when the city of Mumbai was infested with extended organized crime network.
Co-written and directed by Ashim Ahluwalia, Daddy takes you to the streets of Mumbai underworld when more than one groups of mobsters were terrorizing the city. The film will cover events in a span of four decades and will have multiple perspectives without glorifying anything.
Based on Arun Gawli’s life, who is now serving a life sentence in a murder case, Daddy will also extensively tell the story of three friends who call themselves B.R.A gang. As B.R.A is an abbreviation of their initials; Babu Reshim, Rama Naik and Arun Gawli.
It was Gawli who took over the gang after Rama was killed in a police encounter, and mostly operated in the central Mumbai areas. While Gawli and Naik’s gang initially helped Dawood Ibrahim, they later fell out. After Naik was killed in an encounter by Mumbai Police, Gawli launched an all-out assault against the Dawood’s D-Company gang for few years.
While in the trailer of Daddy, we can see the brutal gang war but it will also feature Gawli entering politics. Arjun Rampal looks amazing in this new avatar in this villainy character. The film is set for a July 21 release.
