A new supernatural thriller, Hokum, has arrived in theaters on May 1, bringing an eerie mystery set against the remote landscapes of Ireland. The film is directed by Damian McCarthy and features Adam Scott in the lead role.
The story centers on novelist Ohm Bauman, who travels to a secluded Irish inn to scatter the ashes of his parents. His quiet retreat soon takes a disturbing turn as he learns about the inn’s unsettling past, including rumors of a witch said to haunt the building’s honeymoon suite. When a staff member disappears under mysterious circumstances, the strange folklore surrounding the inn begins to feel increasingly real.
As Bauman experiences unsettling visions and unexplained events, he becomes drawn into the property’s dark history. The journey forces him to confront unsettling memories from his own past while trying to understand the growing supernatural threat within the isolated inn.
Hokum blends psychological tension with elements of folklore-driven horror, using the remote setting and local legends as the backdrop for its unfolding mystery. Alongside Scott, the cast includes Peter Coonan, David Wilmot, Austin Amelio, and Brendan Conroy.
With its theatrical release now underway, the film introduces audiences to a haunting story rooted in isolation, folklore, and psychological suspense. Here is the trailer for a quick watch.
