‘Parasite’ & ‘1917’ steal the show, Phoenix wins as expected

The South Korean comedy thriller “Parasite” won four while Sam Mendes’ World War I drama “1917” won three to lead the 92nd Academy Awards (the Oscar 2020) race. And as expected Joaquin Phoenix won the Best Actor for “Joker,” while Renée Zellweger won the Best Actress for her portrayal of Judy Garland in “Judy.”

The Korean film was indeed the fan-favorite underdog that certainly must have surprised many by winning the Best Picture, but it also won Best Original Screenplay, Best International Film, and the Best Director. How interesting and exciting it might sound that it also became the first foreign-language film to win the top award.

Well, the evening was also good for actors like Brad Pitt who won the Best Supporting Actor, for “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” while Laura Dern won the Best Supporting Actress for “Marriage Story”.
