'6 Underground' – Netflix Movie Review – Loud, Insane & Hysterical

'6 Underground' - Netflix Movie Review

Michael Bay’s action thriller ‘6 Underground’ starring Ryan Reynolds is probably the film you would never like to watch in theatre, as this has more negatives than positives. The makers have realized the fact and made this available on Netflix eager to offer this to a wider audience.

‘6 Underground’ follows an unnamed American tech billionaire (Ryan Reynolds) who fakes his death and later recruits a group of skilled operatives to form a deadly vigilante squad to take down a brutal dictator of the Middle East country of Turgistan.

Known as One, Ryan Reynolds’ character recruits five other people who have their own troubled pasts and are now ready to go underground for a larger cause. They are called ‘Ghosts’: Two is a former spy; Three, a hitman; Four, a parkour runner and thief; Five, a doctor; and Six, an expert driver.

‘6 Underground’ is now streaming on Netflix

For an action-oriented film, the plot at first looks interesting like a heist film. However, there has been no characterization, and everything looks artificial with no emotional connection to the storyline. While Ryan Reynolds and his team’s performance in the film is decent enough to shine in a Michael Bay film, the overall setup and even the action sequences with too many cuts make the experience boring.

The film’s 128 minutes runtime seems very long when we see nothing but a loud rollercoaster ride with hysterical action scenes. With no characterization, the editing of the film is also very sloppy making it a mix of several insane things happening on screen without any coherence and logic.

If you’re a big fan of Michael Bay movies with too much noise and energy, this might be interesting for you with its ‘Mission: Impossible’ or ‘The Italian Job’ style mayhem but with no substance. ‘6 Underground’ is loud and unbearable to the core which gives you little time to think or expect anything else, but the essence of a B-movie action film.

We can just hope that Netflix creates a blockbuster action film series like the ‘Fast and Furious’ franchise. But, for the time being, let’s not plan a sequel to ‘6 Underground’.
