The Barbershop (2022) – A Quiet Struggle, Directed by Isaac Carlton

The Barbershop is a short film by Isaac Carlton that shows what happens when a quiet, introverted young man gets a haircut. The film takes a simple event and turns it into a journey about discomfort and how hard it can be to speak up when things go wrong.

Film Synopsis

The story follows Jullian, played by Isaac Carlton, as he goes to a barbershop. At the start, he talks to the barber about his long hair and mentions that his father is bald. The barber explains that baldness comes from the mother’s side. Jullian then says his grandfather is also bald. The barber suggests trimming the sides and leaving the top long.

After the haircut, Jullian immediately says, “I hate it.” The barber, who has been cutting hair for 20 years, insists that it looks good and will grow on him. But Jullian doesn’t agree and refuses to pay. There’s a twist that follows, and you’ll have to watch to see how it ends.

Director’s Note

Isaac Carlton says the film is based on his own feelings about haircuts. He often leaves feeling unhappy, no matter how clear his instructions were. The film shows how introverts sometimes struggle with small things, and how even a simple haircut can feel overwhelming.
