Trailer: Aparna Sen’s New Film “The Rapist”

The trailer of National Award-winning director Aparna Sen’s new film “The Rapist” is out and it gives glimpses of a hard-hitting drama that examines how much of society is responsible for producing rapists.

The film stars Konkona Sensharma, Arjun Rampal, and Tanmay Dhanania in prominent roles, and is set to be premiered at the Busan film festival on 7th October 2021.

For those of us who are aware of Aparna Sen’s body of work in Bengali cinema, we can expect an introspective narrative of such a sensitive topic that has time and again shaken India. Now and then we keep on hearing extremely disturbing news related to rapes and assaults on women that have pushed for tougher sexual assault laws in the country, but nothing has been done so far.

Written and directed by Aparna Sen, the film chronicles the journey of three protagonists and explores the aftermath of a horrific sexual crime by focusing on the psyche of both the victim and the offender to understand the grounds that enable individuals to commit such heinous crimes.

“The Rapist” is the director’s third Hindi film after Saari Raat (2015) and Sonata (2017).
