STILLWATER is an upcoming dramatic thriller starring Matt Damon from the direction of Tom McCarthy (Spotlight). As shown in the film’s first trailer, the actor plays an American oil-rig roughneck from Oklahoma, Bill, who travels to Marseille to visit his estranged daughter Allison (Abigail Breslin), in prison for a murder she claims she did not commit.
Slated for a theatrical release on July 30, the film’s storyline looks something like Liam Neeson’s “Taken” movies but as we can see – there is no intense action but drama.
The trailer further reveals the storyline in which we learn about Allison on a study tour to Marseille where she befriends a girl she later finds dead. She informs the police, but the cops arrest her instead and charge her with murder.
As Bill travels to visit his daughter in prison, he learns that she has exhausted all her legal options. Confronted with language barriers, cultural differences, and a complicated legal system, Bill builds a new life for himself in France as he makes it his mission to get his daughter out of jail.
