Radhika Apte’s ‘Phobia’ Promises Thrill

Radhika Apte’s Phobia Promises Thrill

Filmmaker Pavan Kripalani’s Phobia seems to be an intriguing psychological thriller. As the name suggests, the film revolves around a phobia—or a fear of something—which is what we can gather from the recently released trailer and teasers.

Radhika Apte, known for her critically acclaimed offbeat films such as Badlapur, Manjhi – The Mountain Man, and the short film Ahalya, plays the central character Mehak—an artist whose life takes a drastic turn after she accidentally dozes off in a taxi one evening.

Phobia is co-produced by Eros International and NextGen Films. According to various media reports, before filming, Apte researched the medical conditions by consulting doctors and reading relevant books. She explained that this first-hand information helped her gain a deeper understanding of the extreme and irrational fears associated with simple things or social situations.

The subject of the film has not yet been revealed, and the teasers released so far appear to serve purely promotional purposes. Nevertheless, it seems to promise the kind of edgy thriller that Bollywood has been missing for a long time.

What’s Your Phobia? #1

In the trailer, Apte is seen reciting the famous nursery rhyme “Little Miss Muffet.” The fear of spiders, as referenced in the rhyme, is known as arachnophobia.

Little Miss Muffet
Sat on a tuffet,
Eating her curds and whey;
Along came a spider
Who sat down beside her
And frightened Miss Muffet away.

The second teaser shows aerophobia – an abnormal and persistent fear of flying. Many people have this kind of fear while being on an airline. In the teaser, you can see Apte getting anxious as the flight prepares to take off.

What’s Your Phobia? #3

The third teaser explores the fear of going on a blind date. What if you meet someone after an online friendship? Isn’t online dating a little scary? What if you meet in a public place? What if he spikes your drink? What if things go wrong? And what if you go on a date without telling anyone, because it’s your secret? This is the fear of the unknown.

What’s Your Phobia? #4

The 4th teaser shows the fear of germs, termed as Mysophobia or Germophobia.
