Netflix continues to push boundaries with global storytelling, and their new Chinese-language show, The Resurrected, is already looking like one of 2025’s most anticipated shows. Selected for the On Screen category at the 30th Busan International Film Festival (Sep 17-26), this supernatural revenge drama has already captured viewers’ attention before its global premiere on October 9, 2025.
Plot Overview
Based in the fictional city of Benkha, The Resurrected is the story of two mothers, Wang Hui-chun (Shu Qi) and Chao Ching (Sinje Lee), who share both sorrow and a thirst for vengeance. Their daughters become victims of an intricate deception and abduction scam, and justice seems a distant dream. The desperate mothers seek supernatural assistance— resurrecting the criminal mastermind of the crime for seven days, with the help of a mysterious goddess.
The resurrected antagonist, played by Fu Meng-Po, encounters revenge when the mothers inflict relentless punishment. However, as revenge circles back, painful truths emerge that compel the women to question the limits of justice and test their morality.

Shu Qi described the script as “bold and groundbreaking,” not just for herself but also for Chinese-language productions. Sinje Lee added, “I’ve never encountered a female-driven story that’s so intense, a little wild, and deeply emotional. It was such a thrill to be part of it, and I’m even more excited for the day we get to share it with audiences around the world”.
The story focuses on the themes of grief, power, and morality. Unlike typical revenge thrillers, The Resurrected poses some difficult moral questions: Is revenge ever truly satisfying? To what extent can we go to exact revenge?
Through the supernatural setup, the story explores ethical dilemmas, the consequences of anger, and the fragile boundaries between justice and destruction. The dark, emotional storytelling seems to offer intense drama as well as philosophical reflection that the path to justice is not always clear and that actions taken in its name can easily cross the line into destruction.

Directed by two of Taiwan’s top directors—Leste Chen (Eternal Summer) and Hsu Chao-jen (Living)—the series brings together a dynamic team of writers, producers, and Golden Horse Award-winning actors.
