Netflix is set to pull the curtain back on one of the boldest and most mysterious jewel thefts ever committed with its upcoming documentary film, “Stolen: Heist of the Century,” launching August 8, 2025.
From the acclaimed team at RAW—the minds behind American Nightmare, The Tinder Swindler and Don’t F**k With Cats—in association with Amblin Documentaries (Big Vape: The Rise and Fall of Juul) and in collaboration with Wildside, this slick true-crime caper promises a chilling, fact-driven account of the world’s greatest diamond heist.
The Heist that Shook the Diamond World
On the morning of February 17, 2003, Antwerp’s ‘Diamond Squad’ uncovered a crime scene straight from a Hollywood thriller: an impenetrable vault at the heart of the Diamond District had been breached in the dead of night. The take? Somewhere between $100 million and half a billion dollars in diamonds and jewels—most of which have never resurfaced.
This wasn’t a smash-and-grab. “Stolen” details how an Italian crew from Turin, later nicknamed “The School of Turin,” spent two years plotting their break-in. Their meticulous sabotage of ten layers of security—including infrared sensors, seismic alarms, and magnetic locks—demonstrated both ingenuity and nerves of steel. They supposedly fooled every safeguard in place, from motion detectors to three-ton steel doors, leaving behind a stunned city and police force.
