If you like high-concept rom-coms or simply crave something fresh outside of the standard Hollywood offerings, you will want to keep ETERNITY on your watch list. A24’s latest offering, set to hit theatres this November, promises a creative spin on romance and the afterlife. Here is what we know so far about this fantasy romantic comedy starring Elizabeth Olsen and Miles Teller.
The film will have its world premiere at the 50th annual Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in September (4 to 14) 2025.
Movie Premise | Eternity
Eternity invites viewers into a heaven and hellish afterlife in which every soul receives one week to choose where—and with whom—to spend eternity. The film is about Joan (Elizabeth Olsen), a woman who, after her death, has a difficult decision to make: spend an eternity with her childhood sweetheart, Luke (Callum Turner), who died young and has been waiting decades for her arrival, or with Larry (Miles Teller), the fellow with whom she lived her life. Twining bittersweet questions about love, memory, and fate, the movie ventures into what it means to choose not only a place, but also a partner, for the rest of one’s life.
Looking at the central premise, we can say that the film has a fresh take on deciding one’s fate in the afterlife with humour, depth, and emotion—it breaks the mould of the traditional rom-com. We can expect a visually dreamy afterlife, some delightfully absurd comedy, and meaningful, sometimes melancholic, explorations of longings and regrets.
