Netflix’s fan-favourite Japanese survival horror series, Alice in Borderland, is officially returning with its edge-of-your-seat adventure on September 25, 2025. Directed by Shinsuke Sato and inspired by Haro Aso’s best-selling manga, the new season is set to up the ante with the long-awaited “Joker” stage — a card that has been teasing viewers since the finale of Season 2.
The Logline
Once a fanatical afterlife-obsessed scholar kidnaps Usagi, Arisu has to go back into the perilous world of the Borderland. With the help of new players, he has to deal not only with life-and-death challenges but also with the mysterious Joker — the last card that may seal the destiny of all the people trapped between the living and the dead.
Synopsis: Into the Borderland Once Again
The last time we saw them, Arisu and Usagi had cleared out all the card games and returned to the real world. Free from the terrors of the lethal alternate dimension, the two eventually got married and started living a serene life.
But peace never lasts long in this universe.
When Usagi suddenly disappears, Arisu finds that she has been brought back into the Borderland by a man called Ryuji, an afterlife scholar. Shortly thereafter, Banda returns — a full-time resident of the Borderland — and informs Arisu about the real reason for her disappearance.
Determined to rescue her no matter what happens, Arisu returns to the frightening game world. This time, survival will not be so easy — with lethal fire arrows, savage electrical traps, and the deception of other players to contend with. And at the heart of it all is the Joker, a card that has been kept in the dark. Will this be the last game Arisu and Usagi ever play — or the start of a whole new nightmare?

Produced by ROBOT in association with Netflix, Alice in Borderland remains faithful to its stunning production design, breathtaking action scenes, and eerie existential themes.
Haro Aso’s manga fans can tell that there’s space for existential questions in the Joker card — is it a trickster, a guide, or something much darker? Though the series has deviated from the manga in some arcs, the Joker stage here is set to explore uncharted emotional and psychological depths. Since early teasers, Netflix has indicated bigger-budget games, darker visuals, and an exploration of mortality, love, and memory within the Borderland’s strange rules.
