Upcoming Superhero Movies in 2016


This year so far we have already watched two superhero films: first Deadpool”from the director Tim Miller and actor Ryan Reynolds; second is “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” – directed by Zack Snyder and starring Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck in lead. Both the films have had a good box office run, and hopefully the next few superhero films to be released this year will have the same impact.

Looking at the popularity of superhero movies in the last few years, we can see production houses; well mostly Marvel Studios, Sony, Warner Bros. and DC Comics, are busy in their huge budget interconnected superhero movie series. It’s almost impossible for you to track every single movie unless you’re a movie geek. So, here is the small list of superhero/villain movies that are yet to be released in the year 2016.

Captain America: Civil War (May 6, 2016)



The epic clash between of Iron Man and Captain America is the latest flick in the franchise set to be released in the first week of May. Time and again, Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is bringing in stories from the comic books to the silver screen and with great success. This time with the third Captain America installment, the film will focus into the Civil War storyline. The best part of the film is you will see two new superheroes joining the likes of Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Black Widow (Scarlet Johansson), and Captain America (Chris Evans). Yes, you will see comic legends Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) and Spider-Man (Tom Holland).

X-Men: Apocalypse (May 27, 2016)

This is the ninth X-Men movie we’re going to watch. However, the storyline will come as a sequel to 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past. The movie will show an ancient mutant Apocalypse (played by Isaac) with god like power awakens from a hibernation of thousands of years to take over the world. In order to battle the evil, all the mutants must join hands to save the humanity.

Cast: James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Oscar Isaac, Evan Peters, Olivia Munn, Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Rose Byrne, Ben Hardy, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and Alexandra Shipp.

Suicide Squad (August 5, 2016)

Written and directed by David Ayer, DC Comics antihero team “Suicide Squad” is in fact a secret government agency known as “Task Force X”, led by Amanda Waller. It recruits imprisoned supervillains to carry out dangerous missions to save the world from powerful unknown threats in exchange for commuted sentences. The film includes characters from DC Extended Universe Deadshot (Will Smith), Rick Flag (Tom Hardy), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Joker (Jared Leto), Boomerang (Jai Courtney) and Enchantress (Cara Delevingne).

Gambit (October 7, 2016)



Director Doug Liman and studio 20th Century Fox are set to offer the X-Men character Gambit soon after the release of “X-Men: Apocalypse” where he will have his cinematic debut. Channing Tatum plays the lead as the kinetic energy-controlling mutant and also someone who loves stealing. If we look at the history of Gambit, he had once joined Apocalypse as the horseman, Death, who had fought with The Avengers where Apocalypse had lost.

Doctor Strange (November 4, 2016)

Marvel’s Fantasia world introduces you with Doctor Strange and his origin story in this film where Benedict Cumberbatch‘s plays the lead character of the powerful sorcerer. Directed by Scott Derrickson, this is the 14th film of Marvel Cinematic Universe and will focus on the character of Stephen Strange, the world’s top neurosurgeon who after losing one hand in an accident, meets The Ancient One – also known as “Sorcerer Supreme” (played by Tilda Swinton) – who later becomes his mentor.

Sinister Six (November 11, 2016)

Six of mankind’s greatest enemies who are drawn from the Spider-Man saga are in action in this super-villain film to destroy Spider-Man and New York City. The film which was earlier intended to be in connection to Spider-Man 2 will now be launched as its own. However, further details are awaited on this, considering the proposed appearance of Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War; Sony will most likely delay this project.
