Sunrise on the Reaping Trailer: Haymitch Story & Release Date

Lionsgate has released the official trailer for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, offering a complete look at the cinematic adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ prequel novel. Directed by Francis Lawrence, the film revisits Panem 24 years before Katniss Everdeen’s story during the 50th Hunger Games—the infamous Second Quarter Quell.

The 50th Games & Arena Storyline

The new footage focuses on a young Haymitch Abernathy after he is reaped alongside double the usual number of tributes. Because a Quarter Quell doubles District participation, 48 tributes enter a deceptively beautiful arena filled with deadly muttations and lethal environmental traps.

The trailer highlights key moments from the novel, including Haymitch’s alliance with Maysilee Donner, arena sabotage attempts, and the psychological control exerted by the Capitol.

Cast and Legacy Characters

The adaptation features an impressive ensemble playing both new figures and younger versions of established franchise characters:

  • Joseph Zada as Haymitch Abernathy
  • Mckenna Grace as Maysilee Donner
  • Whitney Peak as Lenore Dove Baird
  • Ralph Fiennes as President Coriolanus Snow
  • Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee
  • Elle Fanning as Effie Trinket
  • Kieran Culkin as Caesar Flickerman
  • Glenn Close as Drusilla Sickle
  • Maya Hawke as Wiress & Lili Taylor as Mags Flanagan
