‘Gehraiyaan’ – Dives into Complex Urban Relationships Around Infidelity

Director Shakun Batra’s (known for Kapoor & Sons) upcoming Bollywood drama ‘Gehraiyaan’ is probably the film we have been waiting for so long, as lately, the Hindi film industry has been too much invested in unoriginal stories and cheap remakes.

The relationship drama stars Deepika Padukone, Siddhant Chaturvedi, and Ananya Panday in key roles. The film will be premiered on Amazon Prime Video on February 11.

Movie Synopsis

Alisha’s six-year-long relationship has grown monotonous, her career seems to be hitting a lot of roadblocks and just when she had begun to accept this reality as unchangeable, her life is usurped by the arrival of her cousin, Tia, and her fiancé, Zain. Alisha and Zain bond over a troubled past and a common wish to break from its confines.

While we all know that the practice of polygamy in India is outlawed, and it is always expected to be loyal to one’s spouse or partner, including abstention from extramarital affairs, the urban culture with an increasing number of divorce cases and cheating scandals among elites prove that monogamy does not work for all.

Considering the age-old marriage institution of India and constant social pressure on married couples to make everything work, there have been no open and honest conversations about love and sex. ‘Gehraiyaan’ seems to rekindle the talks on emotions like love and lust on the same scale.
