David Cronenberg to Celebrate 50th Anniversary of 'Shivers' at 2025 Tribeca Festival

Renowned director David Cronenberg will make his Tribeca Festival debut this year to celebrate the 50th anniversary of his seminal 1975 horror film Shivers. The SVA Theatre in New York City will host the special screening on Saturday, June 14 at 8:30 PM.

Shivers, also called They Came from Within, introduced viewers to Cronenberg’s unique style of body horror and signalled his rise to prominence in the film industry. The movie tells a terrifying story about a parasite that makes people in a posh apartment building have violent, uncontrollable sexual urges. The film has been acknowledged as a cult classic and a landmark piece of Canadian horror filmmaking, despite the initial controversy and criticism surrounding its release.

After the screening, renowned author Joe Hill, who is best known for books like The Fireman and NOS4A2, will moderate a discussion with Cronenberg. This conversation is a part of Tribeca’s “Reunions & Retrospectives” series, which honours iconic movies and their directors.

The official Tribeca Festival website offers tickets for the event. Rush tickets, subject to availability, will be available at the venue about an hour before the screening for those who are unable to purchase them in advance.

Fans and moviegoers have a rare chance to see Shivers on the big screen and learn from one of the most important filmmakers in history.
