Promise, I’ll Be Fine

“Promise, I’ll Be Fine” follows 15-year-old Eňo as he spends his summer in a rural Slovak village at his grandmother’s house, dreaming of living with his mother, who has left for work. He finds freedom racing through the hills on his motorbike with friends, but when the villagers reveal a hidden side of his mother that shatters his idealized image of her, his emotions are thrown into turmoil.

Directed by Katarína Gramatová, this feature debut was shot in the remote mountain village of Utechka in Banská Bystrica province, Slovakia. There, she previously filmed her short documentary A Good Mind Grows in Thorny Places (2024), drawing inspiration from real-life relationships within the community.
