Netflix's “Black Knight” Depicts a Dystopian Future

The upcoming Netflix Korean drama “Black Knight,” starring Kim Woo-bin (“The Heirs”), Song Seung-heon (“Voice 4”), Esom (“Taxi Driver”), and Kang You-seok (“Light on Me”), is set in a dystopian future devastated by air pollution in which the survival of humanity depends on the Black Knights — and they’re not your average deliverymen.

The K-drama is based on the webtoon “Taekbaegisa” by Lee Yoon-Kyun. It is set to be released on Netflix on May 12, 2023.

Synopsis

The year is 2071, and the world as we know it has been ravaged by toxic air pollution, leaving only a mere one percent of the population alive. With a strict social hierarchy in place, people scarcely venture outside and rely heavily on parcel delivery services for their survival. The delivery drivers, known as knights, not only deliver packages but also safeguard them from thieves.

Knight 5-8, played by the talented Kim Woo-Bin, is a renowned and highly skilled knight. One day, he encounters Sa-Wol (Kang You-Seok), a young refugee with aspirations of becoming a knight. Sa-Wol holds Knight 5-8 in high esteem and looks up to him as a role model. Meanwhile, Seol-A (Esom), an officer in the Defense Intelligence Command, takes care of Sa-Wol as if he were her own family, having saved his life in the past. As the story unfolds, Knight 5-8 helps Sa-Wol to fulfill his dreams of becoming a knight, all while navigating the perilous landscape of their world.
