With Love Per Square Foot, Netflix ventures into the Hindi film industry to draw the Indian audience with what they like the most – Bollywood clichéd Rom-Com. Well, I say this on a positive note, as most Indians see life through a prism of happiness all-around. This film is full of emotion, love, romance, and humor.
Young director Anand Tiwari, who has already worked as Assistant Director in Barfi, has very nicely brought the Indian flavor to the screen. The film and the story demanded some lesser-known Indian actors and that’s what we get which makes this even more believable and likable.
Being a Bollywood film, Love Per Square Foot, too, has song and dance but not much over the top to overshadow the story. In short, the story follows young characters: boys and girls, who see their lives differently than what their parents thought to be. Their desire for homeownership in a city like Mumbai is a common topic in India.

People move from village to cities hoping for better lives, but not many are lucky enough to own a home in those concrete jungles. Two youngsters Sanjay (Vicky Kaushal) and Karina (Angira Dhar) dream of owning a 550-square-feet house but their complex relationships and family lives make the situation even more peculiar.
Finally, when both the characters meet and go into a deal to get married without love, but only to share the ownership of the house, Love Per Square Foot becomes fun to watch. The process of house ownership, their struggle to face their family, and their parents’ sense of marriage – interreligious and arranged – throw many feel-good and light-hearted moments.
Love Per Square Foot is very interesting to watch if you love romantic comedy films. Even if you’re not aware of Indian culture, this film would give some kind of ideas about the crazy – yet loveable – Indian families, their equation of love, emotion, friendship, and also the struggle of youngsters dreaming for a better future.
