Oscars 2016: Leonardo DiCaprio wins Best Actor for ‘The Revenant’

It’s long-pending for a well-deserving actor who has time and again delivered performances that caught the attention of movie buffs. Yes, as we all were waiting, Leonardo DiCaprio won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his incredible work in ‘The Revenant’.

This was a moment for many who in the last two decades have seen the actor in many roles that have been transforming the film industry all around the globe.

Here is Leonardo DiCaprio’s full acceptance speech, as Julianne Moore presents Leonardo DiCaprio with the Best Actor award at the 88th Academy Awards.

It’s an incredible feeling as I write this post. The 41-year-old actor won his first-ever Oscar after being nominated six times before. Certainly, as mentioned in the above tweet, ‘Leonardo DiCaprio is living proof that your dreams will eventually come true. Never give up. Ever.’

As soon as the name of Leonardo is announced, he got loud cheering and a standing ovation from the attendees. During his speech, Leonardo thanked director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, the cast and crew (specifically Tom Hardy), his family, frequent collaborator Martin Scorsese, and more, before taking time to talk about the cause close to his heart – climate change.

“Climate change is real, it is happening right now, it is the most urgent threat facing our entire species and we need to work collectively and stop procrastinating. We need to support leaders around the world… whos speak for all of humanity.”

This time, as usual in every other Oscars, there were four other best performances to compete with Leonardo Dicaprio, including Bryan Cranston for ‘Trumbo’, Matt Damon for ‘The Martian’, Michael Fassbender for ‘Steve Jobs’, and Eddie Redmayne for ‘The Danish Girl’.
