‘12 Years A Slave’ – An Intriguing & Brutal Period-Drama

12 Years a Slave Movie

Based on the true story of Solon Northup, a free black man who was put back into slavery in the 1840s, 12 Years a Slave is a historically important one, a brutal take on American slavery.

To deal with such a tough subject matter, director Steve McQueen has once again brought his skills in capturing high-toned shots in an attempt to portray those painful realities of slavery in American history.

12 Years a Slave is a true depiction of the general inhumanity of that era and not just the life and suffering of Solomon Northup (played by Chiwetel Ejiofor). Well, we were wondering how come Brad Pitt appears in the last few minutes of the film! But he is one of the producers of the movie.

Nevertheless, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Solomon and Michael Fassbender as a cruel slave master have once again proved why actors like them only need a good script to showcase their artistic talent. The story and the performances have kept the film together which eventually earned numerous awards and nominations, including three Academy Awards.
