DOOKUDU is a typical Telugu action-comedy starring an ensemble cast of the South Indian film industry, including Mahesh Babu, Prakash Raj, and Sonu Sood. Ever since its release, this film has garnered rave reviews and a huge fan following across India with various dubbed versions: in Tamil as “Athiradi Vettai”, in Hindi as “The Real Tiger” and in Malayalam as “Choodan”.
If you are a Mahesh Babu fan or an ardent lover of those over-the-top South Indian (or even the Bollywood masala) style filmmaking, ‘Dookudu’ is a must-watch. Mahesh Babu did not have a mega-hit after “Pokiri” (2006) and this came as a bang from director Sreenu Vaitla.
The film has a simple story; it’s about a much-loved politician Shankar Narayana (Prakash Raj) who is very much popular among people for his social works. As in dirty politics, his people-friendly works earned him many enemies, including some of his staunch followers who turned into foes.
Shankar also loved his son Ajay (Mahesh Babu) very much and always wanted to see him as an influential political leader to do good for the people. The story takes its turn when Shankar meets an accident, in fact, a fatal attack by his enemies, and goes into a comatose state, although the rest of the world thinks that he is killed in that incident.
Meanwhile, his son Ajay grows up to become an IPS officer, an aggressive cop, and when he comes to know that his father’s accident was planned by mafia don Naik (Sonu Sood), he aims to take revenge. In the meantime, his father comes out of the coma after 14 long years but doctors warned that he might go back into the state if he hears any shocking news.
The rest of the story of ‘Dookudu’ is how Ajay manages to keep everything happier for his father while planning to take revenge on the villains. The overall comic situation throughout the film is all enjoyable. And the film’s biggest plus point is its dialogues and the characterization of Mahesh Babu who is a tough cop, yet gentle by heart.
