Independent film studio MTS Pictures has announced the North American release of its latest feature film, Souls Chapel, a supernatural horror-western inspired by the real-life legend of an early-1900s reverend rumored to have practiced occult rituals. The film is now available through DVD and major video-on-demand platforms including Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, and Fandango at Home.
Directed by and starring Jake C. Young—who channels the iconic gunslinger persona popularised by his cousin, Clint Eastwood—Souls Chapel blends Western storytelling with supernatural horror. The film also features genre veteran Brian Bremer (Pumpkinhead, Society) alongside Adriana Curtsinger, Jermey Boggs, Gage Carnes, Joseph McDowell, and Molly Gill.
“Souls Chapel is my way of exploring faith, fear, and the thin line between legend and reality because sometimes what we believe becomes something very real,” Young said in a statement.
Souls Chapel Synopsis
Set in an unspecified time after the world has changed from what it once was, the film follows Ray, a wandering drifter traveling through the hills of old Kentucky. After encountering a mysterious entity that promises him gold in exchange for returning two sacred icons, Ray accepts the challenge. His journey leads him into a violent storm and ultimately to a small church known as Souls Chapel.
What begins as a refuge quickly becomes a nightmare. Ray discovers that the chapel’s clergy are not what they appear to be, and the grounds are cursed by dark magic. Trapped within its walls, he must survive the night, fulfill his mission, and escape the sinister forces that haunt the church.
Behind the Scenes
Souls Chapel was written and produced by D. W. Daring, whose previous work includes Reign of the Red Dragon. Daring produced the film alongside Robert Bess and Young through MTS Pictures. Austin Rutherford and Zach Jones served as directors of photography, with executive producers Gary Dando, Mike Davies, Martin Davis, John Przybylinski, Micah Roberts, and LolaBeth Smith.
“I wrote Souls Chapel to prove that the most terrifying stories don’t come from Hollywood; they come from real places, real history, and the things people are afraid to talk about,” Daring said.
