Nightbitch (2024) – A Daring Tale of Modern Motherhood

Amy Adams stars in Nightbitch, a darkly comedic exploration of parenthood written and directed by Marielle Heller. Based on Rachel Yoder’s best-selling novel, the film will be released in select theaters in the United States on December 6, 2024.

Synopsis and more

In Nightbitch, Adams portrays a woman who takes a break from her work to care for her young child, only to be undergoing a transformative change. Her identity, sentiments, and relationship with the world undergo a profound and radical shift, leading to a trip that is both inspiring and unnerving. Yoder’s acclaimed 2021 novel serves as the inspiration for the story, which challenges the obligations society places on mothers by fusing feminist ideas with surrealist elements.

Adams and Scoot McNairy, who plays her husband, deliver bold performances in this sharp and poignant tale. Adams, in particular, shines as she embraces the chaos and raw emotion of her character’s struggle. This modern fable, directed by Marielle Heller (The Diary of a Teenage Girl, Can You Ever Forgive Me?, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood), captures the messy magic of motherhood in a unique and powerful way.

Nightbitch premiered on September 7 at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival and was also screened at the BFI London Film Festival in October. If you’re a fan of thought-provoking, daring cinema, you won’t want to miss this one.
