Pedro Almodóvar’s much-anticipated English-language debut, The Room Next Door, is set to captivate audiences at the 68th BFI London Film Festival, running from October 9-20, 2024.

This moving adaptation of Sigrid Nunez’s novel What Are You Going Through stars Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton in lead roles, supported by John Turturro and Alessandro Nivola.

The film tells the emotional story of Ingrid (Moore) and Martha (Swinton), two longtime friends who reconnect after Martha reveals she has been diagnosed with cancer. As they share memories, including Martha’s reflections on her past as a war journalist and her fractured relationship with her daughter, their bond deepens. A personal request from Martha takes the story to a poignant conclusion.

The Room Next Door premiered at the 81st Venice International Film Festival, where it won the prestigious Golden Lion. Almodóvar’s rich visual style and the evocative score by Alberto Iglesias enhance the film’s emotional depth, while Moore and Swinton’s performances are sure to leave a lasting impression.

Following its success in Venice, the film will be released in Spain on October 18, 2024, and screened at cinemas across the UK during the BFI festival.
