Marvel Studios kicks off a bold new chapter with Fantastic Four: First Steps, coming to theaters around the world on July 25, 2025. As the official beginning of Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), the film introduces the new generation of the First Family with new characters, new risks, and an entirely reimagined universe.
A New Era for the Fantastic Four
This reboot drops all the previous iterations and origin stories for a bold, fully realized team operating in a stylized retro-futuristic universe. Taking place in an alternate timeline, the film brings to life a dynamic, 1960s-inspired world heavy with cosmic threats and bold visual flair.
Director Matt Shakman has written a standalone story that is centered on the group’s dynamics as a family, scientists, and explorers—emphasizing emotion, purpose, and spectacle over setup.
Cast and Characters
Fantastic Four: First Steps boasts a top-notch cast of characters:
- Reed Richards / Mr. Fantastic – a genius scientist motivated by reason and responsibility
- Sue Storm / Invisible Woman – the emotional core of the team with strong leadership qualities
- Johnny Storm / Human Torch – the fiery, impulsive younger brother
- Ben Grimm / The Thing – the heart and muscle of the group, wrestling with identity and strength
The crew will battle against an ominous cosmic being in their universe, with the possibility of greater ties to multiverse occurrences throughout the MCU.

Cosmic Scope, Personal Stakes
In contrast to past efforts to bring the Fantastic Four on screen, this version represents more of its cosmic origins—celebrating high-concept sci-fi, space exploration, and existential threats. But under all the spectacle, the film promises to deliver character-driven storytelling on the relationships, sacrifices, and sense of responsibility within the group.
Early buzz from behind-the-scenes sources hints at a powerful villain presence, deeply emotional character arcs, and a post-credits tease that may directly link to the next Avengers-level crossover.
Initial reviews and social media posts have hinted towards an incredibly high praise for the movie, and it has been referred to as a bold, stylish return to high-concept cosmic storytelling. Someone even called Ralph Ineson’s Galactus “most haunting Marvel villain since Thanos.”
