Netflix's ‘The Gringo Hunters’ – A New Crime Thriller Based on Real Events

The Gringo Hunters, a gritty new series inspired by a real-life Mexican police unit that finds American fugitives who attempt to hide south of the border, will debut on Netflix on July 9, 2025.

The show focuses on the work of the International Liaison Unit, a lesser-known but highly active and effective task force based in Tijuana. It has helped in apprehending and deporting hundreds of criminals back to the United States.

Led by Harold Torres (ZeroZeroZero) and Mayra Hermosillo (Narcos: Mexico), the cast infuses serious intensity to the story. The show features action, suspense, and police drama, while also getting into the cross-border policing and the moral ambiguities that accompany the job.

What sets The Gringo Hunters apart is that it reverses the traditional script—it’s not Americans pursuing criminals into Mexico. It’s about a Mexican team chasing, and doing it very successfully. The show blends procedural elements with more in-depth character development, adding thrills and emotional weight.

Whether you enjoy true crime shows or just looking for something fresh in the crime thriller space, this one could be an addition to your watchlist.

Streaming starts July 9 on Netflix. Meanwhile, you may watch the official trailer of The Gringo Hunters.
