Director Kazuya Shiraishi’s ‘Lesson in Murder’ (死刑にいたる病), starring Sadawo Abe in an eerie performance, is sure to send shivers up your spine! The director adapts the novel of the same name which is said to be one of the masterpieces of mystery writer Riu Kushiki.

Masaya is a college student who receives a letter from Haimura, who is on death row for a series of murders that shocked the country. Haimura, a former bakery entrepreneur, kidnapped and brutally murdered high school students. However, he was a comforting figure for Masaya, a lonely junior high school student, at the time. Haimura has admitted his crimes but claims that one of the deaths was not his own, and he requests that Masaya investigate. Masaya reluctantly accepts and gradually moves to uncover a shocking truth.

Lesson in Murder’ revolves around the truth that twists and turns around a false accusation case. The mystery deepens and an unpredictable ending makes the film quite an experience. Watch the trailer below.
