Based on the true story of Solon Northup, a free black man who was put back into slavery in the 1840s, 12 Years a Slave is absolutely a historically important one.

To deal with such a tough subject matter, director Steve McQueen has once again brought his skills in capturing high-toned shots in an attempt to portray those painful reality of slavery in American history.

12 Years a Slave is a true depiction of general inhumanity of that era, and not just the life and suffering of Solomon Northup (played by Chiwetel Ejiofor). Well, I was wondering how come Brad Pitt appears in the last few minutes of the film! But he is one of the producers of the movie.

Nevertheless, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Solomon and Michael Fassbender as a cruel slave master have once again proved that why actors like them only need a good script to showcase their artistic talent. Indeed, a very fine movie to watch.

Starring: Chiwetel Ejiofor, Brad Pitt, Michael Fassbender, and Benedict Cumberbatch
