‘Moonfall' Trailer: ‘In 2022, the Moon Will Come Towards Us.’

From the director of 2012, Day After Tomorrow, and Independence Day here comes yet another science fiction disaster film, ‘Moonfall’, visualizing the possibility of earth’s future if ever the Moon deviates from its orbit and comes on a collision path with Earth.

However strange it may seem, but thinking about the endless possibilities and the vastness of the universe, there is no certainty whether the Moon will ever float away in space or fall on Earth. This may be a thing in a few billion years (planetary collisions were more common in the early days of our solar system). It all depends on Earth’s gravitational force; even though for now, the force is neither strong enough to pull the Moon towards us nor there is any known (so far) external force in space to push the Moon away from us.

Nevertheless, Roland Emmerich’s ‘Moonfall’ is based on the very likelihood and shows how a mysterious force knocks the Moon from its current orbit and drives it into us posing imminent danger to our home.

Here is the official synopsis:

In Moonfall, a mysterious force knocks the Moon from its orbit around Earth and sends it hurtling on a collision course with life as we know it. With mere weeks before impact and the world on the brink of annihilation, NASA executive and former astronaut Jo Fowler (Academy Award® winner Halle Berry) is convinced she has the key to saving us all – but only one astronaut from her past, Brian Harper (Patrick Wilson, “Midway”) and a conspiracy theorist K.C. Houseman (John Bradley, “Game of Thrones”) believe her. These unlikely heroes will mount an impossible last-ditch mission into space, leaving behind everyone they love, only to find out that our Moon is not what we think it is.
