Soulmate (Korean Movie): A Story About Friendship, Love, Longing, and Jealousy

SOULMATE (Korean: 소울메이트) is an upcoming South Korean film directed by Min Yong-geun starring Kim Da-mi, Jeon So-nee, and Byeon Woo-seok. The film is a remake of the 2016 Chinese film of the same name.  

It is a coming-of-age story about friendship, love, longing, and jealousy. The film is scheduled to be released theatrically on March 15, 2023.

The plot of Soulmate revolves around two friends, Mi-so (Kim Da-mi) and Ha-eun (Jeon So-nee), who first meet at the age of 13 and spend the next 14 years of their lives remaining close and sharing friendship and romantic experiences.

The film is more about the essence of human relationships and how our shared emotions of love, longing, and jealousy drive our lives and often push us apart or bring us together.

Synopsis

The film depicts the ups and downs of a relationship between two women born in 1988, Mi-so (Kim Da-mi) and Ha-eun (Jeon So-nee). When Ha-eun begins her first love with her classmate Jin-woo (Byeon Woo-seok) in their late teens, the world between them drifts apart. The free-spirited Mi-so leaves for the city to live an adventurous life, while Ha-eun stays in her hometown to live a stable life, and the two become gradually estranged.
