“Offbeat Cops” (異動辞令は音楽隊!) is a Japanese drama directed by Uchida Eiji and featuring Hiroshi Abe in the lead. The film is scheduled for its theatrical release on August 26.

Tsukasa Naruse is a detective working in the criminal division and is very much efficient in his job. However, he has been infamous for ignoring department compliance being too strict with his subordinates, and even at times acting impulsively. In one case, he targeted a suspect without a warrant, and for that Tsukasa transferred to the police music band as disciplinary action. Though reluctant at first, he discovers the joy of sessions with his teammates and starts to inspire them for better performance.

“Offbeat Cops” is an original story from the writer-director Uchida of the film who gets inspired by watching a flash mob video of a police band on YouTube. He imagines the human drama depicting the struggles and ways of life of middle-aged people who have worked diligently without looking aside.

Hiroshi Abe plays the character of Tsukasa Naruse, a detective – who is about the turning point in his life. The cast also includes Nana Seino, Hayato Isomura, Mahiro Takasugi, Shunya Itabashi, Serena Motola, Ai Mikami , Takashi Okabe, among others.
