‘The Grudge’ (2020) – Movie Trailer, Posters, and More

The Grudge (2020) - Movie Poster

Sony Pictures has recently released a new poster and teaser/trailer for its upcoming supernatural horror film ‘The Grudge’. The film written and directed by Nicolas Pesce is a reboot of the 2004 horror film of the same name. Japanese filmmaker Takashi Shimizu is the director of the original Japanese horror movie ‘Ju-On’ (2002) and the subsequent American remake.

‘The Grudge’ – Movie Plot

A detective tries to look into a bizarre case after a young mother kills her family in her own home, only to find that the place is haunted by a vengeful spirit. Now that the investigator and her family are being pursued by the demonic spirits, she must take any necessary precautions to avoid damage.

Sam Raimi, the producer of ‘Don’t Breathe’ and ‘Evil Dead,’ brings this new film to be released on January 03, 2020. The storyline of the film, as marketed by Sony, will be much darker and visually scarier compared to the previous films.

So, if we look at the earlier ‘The Grudge’ film series, this new addition by director Pesce will be the fourth installment of the franchise, and the story, even though is not a retelling of the original film, is going to be a separate story set in the same time period and in a small town in the United States.

The film stars Andrea Riseborough, Demián Bichir, John Cho, Betty Gilpin, Lin Shaye, and Jacki Weaver in prominent roles. Let’s have a look at the latest film teaser and trailer before we discuss it further.

‘The Grudge’ 2020 – Bubble bathtub clip – sets a frightening premise

In the above short movie clip, we see John Cho’s character Peter Spencer keep calling the name of his wife after hearing a mumbling voice. As he sees the bathroom door slightly open, he enters to see the bathtub full of blood. Spencer goes close to the tub to inspect further, just when a terrifying hand emerges from the water and grabs his neck, and pushes his body backward in the air.

‘The Grudge’ 2020 – Red band movie trailer – reveals a bloody encounter

The Grudge’s Bubble Bath clip certainly sets the tone for a terrifying story. However, in the red band Grudge movie trailer, we are introduced to a few more characters in an extended scene of the film. Here it is:

In the trailer, we can see that a young detective Muldoon (Riseborough) visits a house and asks for its lady owner who seems to be in her worst of condition with fear in her eyes and her fingers chopped with blood in her hands. The detective tries to get help, but she soon realizes the weirdness of the house as she spots a dead body infested with insects and bugs. The trailer then shows a few more graphic scenes introducing more characters.

Looking at the teaser and trailer, we can say that the characters are all different and possibly the storyline will be completely different. At the same time, we sense that the general feel of the movie, plot elements with weird supernatural entities in play would certainly be somehow like the previous films in the Grudge film franchise. The trailer indeed shows some violent and gory images that go with the signature mark of the franchise.
