Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (REVIEW)

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom review

The dinosaurs are back with Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (Directed by J. A. Bayona), a sequel to the 2015 reboot of the original franchise, with a promise to have a sequel.

If we look at the franchise as a whole, this is not the best of the lot; Jurassic World was comparatively much better than this one.

For everyone who is a big fan of the Jurassic World trilogy, it was natural to be skeptical of the success of any other films. However, Colin Trevorrow’s film successfully brought a whole new generation of audience who expected even more from the franchise.

So, whether it’s the huge success of Steven Spielberg’s classics or the first reboot, it’s bound to have mixed responses depending on who is watching which films.

Coming back to Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, at least we can say that it has aptly set the stage for another sequel. The film takes place three years after the incident at Jurassic World. The aim is now to save the dinosaurs from a volcano-erupted Isla Nublar. The debate is now whether to leave them die or save the species.

When the senate voted against the idea of saving the dinosaurs, Dinosaur Protection Group founder Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) meets Benjamin Lockwood who wanted to move the dinosaurs to a safe island owned by him. Claire is later joined by Jurassic World’s former Velociraptor trainer Owen Grady (Chris Pratt).

The story is focused on the rescue mission and the challenges they face, both in form of natural calamities in Isla Nublar as well as evil human intention. In between, the last living Velociraptor ‘Blue’ keeps everyone engaged.

Overall, Fallen Kingdom is an attempt to set the stage for something big and better adventure in the next film (to be directed by Trevorrow). Considering that the events are taking place 22 years after the Jurassic Park events, the storyline promises something new. Looking at this aspect, probably we can say it’s a decent movie if not really good.

By the end of this film, we see many possibilities in the storyline with continuing efforts towards genetic experimentation probably by different groups, ‘Blue’ leaving for the wild, and the danger of wild dinos now being a threat to society.

The whole idea of leaving dinosaurs free sets the tone for the next film. Undoubtedly, there will be more action, adventure, and horror. This time most of the action was limited to Lockwood’s estate and hopefully, in the next film, we might see some of those really big T. rex out on the field (probably even inside the cities).
