Wonder (2017) – Introducing Auggie Pullman

Wonder 2017 Movie Poster

The release of Stephen Chbosky’s WONDER is scheduled for November 17. It features important characters played by Julia Roberts, Owen Wilson, and Jacob Tremblay. The film, which is based on R.J. Palacio’s book of the same name, depicts the moving tale of a little child named August “Auggie” Pullman who has a rare medical facial difference.

The book by Raquel Jaramillo (pen name R. J. Palacio) is one of the very inspiring children’s novels, as it introduces Auggie and his struggle to deal with his facial deformity when he for the first time joined a school. Until the fifth grade, Auggie was home-schooled by his parents and had never been to a mainstream school. So, when he joined the fifth grade in a private school, he desperately wanted to be treated normally by others.

WONDER, in many ways, is a heartwarming story. It narrates Auggie’s extraordinary journey to overcome his fear of being around kids, and how he made friends, and how he eventually united everyone by drawing everyone’s love and compassion. WONDER focus more light on inner beauty and teaches everyone to recognize and value this more than the exterior self.

The tagline of the novel Wonder reads: “You can’t blend in when you were born to stand out.” This is certainly true if we think about our lives differently without even trying so hard to blend in with others. The uniqueness is there, everyone comes with a purpose and we all need to value the goodness everyone can offer. WONDER is all about kindness, friendship, and courage that certainly teaches both our kids and elders alike that beauty is not about a pretty face but it’s about having a pretty heart and soul.
