The Crucifixion follows a young investigative journalist Nicole Rawlins (Sophie Cookson) who tries to go deep into the death of a young nun as a result of an exorcism by a local priest. She comes in contact with Father Anton (Corneliu Ulici) to determine whether the jailed priest murdered a mentally ill person or he lost the battle with a demonic entity.
When a movie in the very beginning says that the story is inspired by actual events, you start expecting a lot. However, most of the time the film proves to be simply yet another attempt with no uniqueness in story or treatment. With The Crucifixion, the story based in rural Romania is a little balanced with a decent plot and its dramatic execution.
The Crucifixion starts with a scene of exorcism in which a few priests tied the girl onto a cross who was possessed by some demon. The priest later justified the act by saying that he did this for the god, and they wanted the girl to be as close to god.
The exorcism was stopped by another priest who admitted the girl to the hospital where she died. Reporter Nicole who was following the case got an inconclusive autopsy report from the doctor.
As the reporter went to the church to investigate further she started experiencing unusual things. She even went to that specific room in the church where the priest had conducted exorcism, and later met the dead girl’s friends and family to understand the case more.

The Crucifixion is indeed one of those horror films with decent melodramatic scenes along with a few very well-designed supernatural occurring. Few can be a little scarier for some, so please watch if you’re not afraid of the routine jump-scares.
Sometimes I wonder how far people can go investigating such cases that involve supernatural beings and why people fall prey to a demonic entity. Nevertheless, watch The Crucifixion to learn what really happened – is an innocent man in jail?
