The Hunter’s Prayer (2017) – A Sloppy Action Thriller

The Hunter’s Prayer follows an assassin and one of his targets – a girl whom the hitman opts not to kill, and goes on to help her in seeking revenge for the murder of her family. This is a fast-paced action thriller but falls to the formulaic script.

Starring Sam Worthington and Odeya Rush in lead roles, the film never gives you the impression that it’s going to even justify the actors involved in the project. In fact, the very concept of a conscience-stricken hitman has been very repetitive in Hollywood.

In The Hunter’s Prayer Worthington plays a drug-addicted assassin named Lucas who has been hired to kill a young 16-year-old girl, Ella (Odeya Rush). As he could not pull the trigger out of conscience and opted not to kill the girl, they both came under the target of other killers.

As the storyline is too feeble to keep the audience engaged, director Jonathan Mostow (Terminator 3, Surrogates) comes up with extended action sequences with gunfire, car chases, and destruction of public property.

There is hardly any effort to develop the characters other than showing few clips in flashbacks for Lucas as a war veteran and his supposed family he could have had. Otherwise, The Hunter’s Prayer becomes very predictable in very thinly, no substance, written roles. In the end, the movie lacks entertainment value, no matter how logic-less templates action movies have.
