Amazon Prime Video Comes to India

The e-commerce giant Amazon’s Prime Video is soon going to hit the Indian market. In the recent festive season sale, Amazon Prime emerged as the highest selling product owing to the fact that the Amazon Prime Video streaming service is included. As per several media reports, its video offering will be launched on November 9.

Even though there are many other TV and movie streaming services already available in India, including the likes of Netflix, Voot, and Hotstar, Amazon Prime is going to be a hot favorite. In the recent past, Amazon India has confirmed tie-ups with the likes of Dharma Productions, T-Series, and the maker of Baahubali SS Rajamouli’s Arka Mediaworks’.

Let’s see what you can expect from Amazon Prime Video. Primarily, you will have unlimited ad-free streaming of movies, and TV shows, as well as Amazon Originals that include special shows created by Indian filmmakers and production houses.

As Netflix is already launched early this year with a similar subscription-based streaming platform, Prime Video is expected to compete with an extended catalog. Unlike Netflix which has so far very few Indian movies and TV shows in its library, Amazon is more ambitious with its deals with Indian production houses.

With Amazon Prime Video, you can access new releases, popular Bollywood blockbusters, Hollywood movies, US shows, global Award-winning Amazon Original Series, and kids’ programming.

Like other streaming services, you will be able to access Prime Video anywhere: on the go or in the comfort of your living room. Watch on your Android or iOS phone or tablet. Or watch on your laptop, desktop, smart TV, or game console.

Another reason for Amazon Prime to succeed in the Indian market is its price structure. While a Netflix subscription comes for Rs. 500 (SD), Rs. 650 (HD), and Rs. 800 (4K + HDR) per month, Amazon Prime – with video and all the shopping benefits – will be available at Rs. 999 per year, after its introductory offer of Rs. 499 ends. Although it’s not clear whether Prime Video will be a part of this yearly subscription, it’s highly likely as it has to compete with others in a price-sensitive market.
