Mad Max (Fury Road) Winners at Oscars

Tom Hardy in Mad Max Fury Road

Yeah, I remember the day last year when I asked one of my friends to go to watch ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ in the theatre. Well, I knew that she wouldn’t prefer an over-the-top action flick with that much noise around.

So, eventually, she did not, and I went ahead alone, only to find that the theatre was all set to entertain a houseful of guests. The film started and what I watched in the course of the next two hours is an amazing experience filled with action, adventure, and thrill.

Since that day, I was pretty sure that this film is going to make it to the list of Oscars. And it does with six awards at the 88th Academy Awards, including film editing, costume design, makeup, sound editing, sound mixing, and of course, production design.

Directed by George Miller, and Tom Hardy delivering a splendid performance, ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ turned out to be one of the best in the lot.

Even though the sci-fi chase thriller sequel did not win any on the top, it at least showed how much ‘behind the camera work’ is important as is the acting on screen.

Initially, critics gave the film mixed reviews, but in the end, it was a box office hit, grossing over $378.9 million worldwide.

From director George Miller, the originator of the post-apocalyptic genre and mastermind behind the legendary “Mad Max” franchise, comes “Mad Max: Fury Road,” a return to the world of the Road Warrior, Max Rockatansky.

Here are the final Mad Max winners out of those 10 nominations:

Film Editing: Margaret Sixel
Costume Design: Jenny Beavan
Makeup: Lesley Vanderwalt, Elka Wardega and Damian Martin
Sound Editing: Mark Mangini and David White
Sound Mixing: Chris Jenkins, Gregg Rudloff, and Ben Osmo
Production Design: Production design by Colin Gibson; set decoration by Lisa Thompson

Certainly, all those creative people who won at Oscars, and who even did not, they created something unthinkable.

‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ is a gorgeous movie and those who loved it more than any other film on the list, may feel a bit let down for not winning the Best Picture, but the film won many hearts worldwide and this is in true sense the acknowledgment of its brilliance.
