The Revenant (2015) – Film Review

The Revenant is one of 2015’s remarkable films and Leonardo DiCaprio’s best shot at Oscars which he so far missed even after coming that close.

An Oscar-winning director and a five-time Oscar-nominated actor team up to produce one of its kind films with the latest survival-revenge saga The Revenant. Yes, director Alejandro G. Inarritu, who has last owned the coveted award for 2014-released satirical black comedy-drama film ‘Birdman’, has this time an epic biographical period drama with ace actor Leonardo DiCaprio.

The Revenant is inspired about the life of a 19th-century mythical frontiersman named Hugh Glass. The film chronicles the epic journey of the man with immense courage, determination, and sheer spirit to survive in the most dreaded climatic condition to avenge the murder of his son.

Here is the movie trailer for The Revenant

Glass, who was mauled by a grizzly bear and left for dead by his companions, almost crawled about six weeks, crossing 200 miles and that itself is unbelievable.

Leonardo DiCaprio plays the legendary Glass, who in his quest to survive in the most vicious cold of the uncharted American wilderness endures unimaginable grief as well as the betrayal of his confidant John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy).

The scenes in the films are brutal and realistic to even let you feel the pain as Glass goes through the immense physical and emotional agony.

He has two ways to move forward, either to bite the dust inside the grave (to surrender and get murdered in the hands of the Indians) or fight back till the very end. He chose the latter and eventually survived to write his side of the story.

The Revenant is fierce, real and breath-taking, and often exhausting and emotionally draining, but it is indeed a must-watch for everyone.

Revenant stands for someone who has returned, as if from the dead. Certainly, this film epitomizes hope and lets you think how everyone has an innersole that allows us to fight and do the unthinkable that to average eyes looks impossible.

Other than the captivating storyline and the performance of each actor, including Tom Hardy, I guess one of the biggest plus points of the film is its visually wondrous moments, created by cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki (Gravity and Birdman). Nevertheless, the is the film no one should ever miss; you got to watch this and don’t wait till the Oscars get announced next year.
