‘Baahubali’ – An Unmatched Buzz

Director S.S. Rajamouli’s epic magnum opus Baahubali set to be released on July 10th, 2015 worldwide has already created a buzz in the industry. The film which is believed to be made with a hooping budget of over 250 crores is probably India’s most expensive motion picture to date. The film will be released in four different Indian languages: Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Hindi.

Baahubali which stars Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, and Tamannah Bhatia in lead roles will be releasing as many as 6000 screens worldwide – in over 15 countries, including 2500 screens overseas for English & French versions (about 200 screens in the US alone). The film is coming in two parts; Baahubali: The Beginning will introduce an exciting journey of filmmaking that for sure will make its mark in Indian cinema.

The premier show that is being screened a day before the release date has already been sold out with high ticket prices ranging between Rs. 4000-8000. Interestingly, the first normal show of the film will hit the screen as early as 5 AM. Online ticket booking website Bookmyshow.com has already gone sold out for this movie in major southern Indian cities, including Hyderabad, where the Premier show is scheduled.

There are many interesting facts coming in about the film and its making, just before its release. As per the makers, the film took 500 days the making of which 180 days for writing the script. Rajamouli with his vision is regarded as one of the finest directors of the Indian film industry, particularly with Telugu language films like Sye, Vikramarkudu, Magadheera, and Eega.

With so much hype, Baahubali is set to surpass the benchmark for commercial filmmaking in Indian cinema. However, not much has been revealed about the storyline of the film. Some say it’s been inspired by the Hindu epic Mahabharata and others somehow link it to the American film ‘300’ (released 2006). The basic plot, however, narrates the story of two brothers vying for control of a kingdom.

Here are a few milestones on Baahubali’s journey so far:

  • Baahubali was the first Indian film to participate in Comic Con India.
  • Over 15 of Baahubali hashtags that were generated trended nationally on Twitter – no other film in the country has come close to this number.
  • The Baahubali trailer is one of the highest viewed trailers in the country with over 2 crore views. It also held its position high in the trending list for over 4 weeks and still counting.
  • Baahubali was featured in prestigious international publications such as Variety magazine and The Guardian. Members of the cast and crew were also interviewed for BBC’s documentary on 100 years of Indian Cinema.
  • Baahubali is credited with the world’s largest poster that was unveiled in Kerala recently.
