‘Knight of Cups’ (2015) – Movie Trailer

Terrence Malick's Knight of Cups

The Tree of Life director Terrence Malick is back with Knight of Cups which will be premiered at the 65th Berlin Film Festival in February 2015. The production company FilmNation Entertainment has recently released its first trailer which can be watched below.

Starring Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, and Natalie Portman the film somehow talks about celebrity life, inordinateness, and the search for happiness.

The plotline is yet to be revealed; looking at the trailer we can only guess that Bale is playing a guy who has lost himself in the world of glitz and glamour and probably doing some kind of soul searching.

As far as the title of the film is concerned, Knight of Cups is probably inspired by the tarot card of the same name while implying some spiritual/philosophical meaning of life. Christian Bale (currently watch him in Exodus: Gods and Kings) plays the lead character Rick who ends up questioning his life after encountering the emptiness in the glamorous Hollywood life.

Here is what the synopsis of Malick’s ‘Knight of Cups’ reads like:

Rick is a screenwriter living in Los Angeles. While successful in his career, his life feels empty. Haunted and confused, he finds temporary solace in the decadent Hollywood excess that defines his existence. Women provide a distraction to his daily pain, and every encounter brings him closer to finding his place in the world.
