The Vow (2012) – Inspired by a true story

The Vow - Movie Review

I am not a big fan of Channing Tatum but Rachel McAdams, ever since I first watched Sherlock Holmes and then The Notebook. Anyways, I’ll here talk about the film The Vow which is a sweet love story with the finest acting by both Rachel and Tatum. Interestingly, the film is based on a true story, as we get to see the end title notes – the name and pictures of a lovely couple Kim and Krickitt Carpenter.

Nevertheless, coming back to what the story is all about, many might find the beginning very melodramatic with a lovely couple Paige Collins (Rachel McAdams) and Leo (Channing Tatum), and their short but sweet love life that ends with a car wreck causing memory loss of Paige who doesn’t remember her immediate past life.

After Paige loses her memory in that car accident on a snowy night, Leo tries everything he could to win her back. The story is not about falling in love and getting married, but here the couple was happily married the problem is that she now cannot just remember her life with Leo. Paige has everything in her memory before she meets Leo, as she can very well remember her life with her family and the man Jeremy to whom she is still engaged to.

In constant persuasion and hope, Leo asks Paige to come home and start living with him to see if the memory returns, but it was like living with a stranger under one roof. So, what happens? Do Leo’s efforts win her back and does Paige regain her memory back and the lovely time they both had in a four-year marriage until that fateful day?

Above all, I believe that when we watch a love story the likes of The Notebook, My Sassy Girl, Notting Hill, or Love Actually, we should not expect much. Moreover, The Vow is inspired by true events and the screenplay just needed a fine performance. And I think both the actors have done a brilliant job at least catching the attention of the intended audience with that sweet feeling.
